FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW MUCH SHOULD I DRINK?

If you have never tried water kefir before, we recommend you start out by drinking an ini mini glass (about 50mL) each day and slowly build it up to an amount that works best for you. If the bacteria in your gut are very unbalanced, drinking water kefir might initially cause some adverse reactions because the ‘good’ bacteria are replacing the ‘bad’ bacteria. This is perfectly normal and will improve after the bacteria in your gut have regained a healthy balance.

SHOULD I KEEP IT IN THE FRIDGE?

We recommend keeping the water kefir in the fridge. The fermentation process will continue in the bottle, but when kept at lower temperatures this process is slowed down. You can keep it up to a month outside the fridge, although keep in mind that the longer you keep it the more sour it will get due to the ongoing fermentation process.

WHAT DO I DO WITH THE EMPTY BOTTLE?

When you finish squeezing, sucking and shaking all the goodness out of the bottle, don’t you even think about throwing it away! We use a deposit-system (statiegeld) on our bottles. This way we can reuse them, hereby reducing our environmental footprint. All the bottles are cleaned, sterilized and refilled.

So, the next time you go get yourself more water kefir, bring your empty bottle with you.

IS IT ORGANIC AND/OR VEGAN?

Yes, our water kefir is 100% organic and vegan.

DOES IT CONTAIN ALCOHOL?

One of the byproducts of the fermentation process is alcohol. This is how beer and wine, for example, are made. Our water kefir contains a very small percentage of alcohol, mostly less than 1%.

DOES IT CONTAIN LACTOSE?

No, our water kefir does not contain lactose.

IS IT PASTEURIZED?

No, our water kefir is unpasteurized. In this way, all beneficial bacteria and yeasts that are formed during the fermentation are preserved and you are assured of all the health benefits from drinking it.
